SPF Intern Program


Stony Pond Farm is a small organic diverse dairy specializing in products harvested from our herd of Jersey & Devon Cattle including: Fluid Milk and Grass-fed/Grass-finished certified organic beef. In addition we raise poultry, pigs, and grow a larger then one family vegetable garden. Situated in a strong agriculturally grounded and culturally diverse community, A SPF internship provides a wonderful opportunity for a tremendously rewarding and educational experience

Ideally candidates should be available from May 1st through November 1st, and be prepared for a 25-30 hour work week aligning with the often shifting and dynamic nature of farm life. We will provide a small monthly stipend, beautiful cabin for housing with electricity, wood heat, stove, running water, and plenty of food from the farm.

This internship involves all aspects of managing a small scale and economically viable grass farm including: milking cows, participating and planning seasonal intensively managed grazing, feeding and processing of farm livestock, installation and maintenance of fence and water systems, preparation and attendance at a major farmers market, participation in enterprise brainstorming, in addition to many other farm activities.

Apprentices are provided with personal time and encouraged to examine individual on-farm enterprise possibilities, and to participate in local farmer led discussion groups and off-farm workshops. There is room for additional income and education through hours spent working with a local high tensile fence installation company.

Qualifications include a passion for working outdoors, some interest in organic agriculture, whole foods, and environmental issues, and ability to remain flexible and positive. Must be able to set priorities and be a self-starter. For the right person this is the chance to work outside in a beautiful, rewarding, and stimulating place.
